Kickoff 2011!

Hey, Team 3054 Icestorm here!

So, today was the kickoff (obviously stated above), and it ROCKED We, the kickoff team (Alex D., Alex O., Alton, Casey, David, Gus, Jana, Kirsten, Maddie, Max, and Zack.), got so many new, awesome parts for the team, and learned what the challenge was! We woke up all around 4 A.M., or just stayed up, but it was totally worth it. After picking up Silver Bay, we headed out to UMD, arriving about an hour or so early. After signing in, we hung around, waiting for it to start.

When the kickoff, live from New Hampshire, started, there were many acknowledgements from many people. Even Will.I.Am was there. But, when the count-down started for the unveiling of the challenge, everyone was psyched! The curtain fell, and the challenge is...

A sort of ring-toss game, where there are rungs on the wall by where the driver-stations are. You're paired with two other teams, and work together to place the inflatable tubes on the rungs, in the order of the FIRST Robotics logo, Triangle Circle Square. Then, when that is all done, you send a mini-bot to the top of one of the four towers in the playing field. Sounds easy, but is WAY more complicated than it seems.

But, isn't that what FIRST Robotics is about? Exercising the brain? We're up to the challenge. Plus, if we get to nationals, West is going to break-dance for us. Woo us!
