LAST DAY, YO.

Hello our zero readers...
Well, today is the last day that we have before we leave our town for the competition in Duluth, Minnesota! YAAAAYYYYY! Currently, we are working on finishing up the mini-bot, seeing as this is the last day we have. Tomorrow, though, we have to wake up at like, 5:30. It's okay though. We are invincible, or something like that. But, yes. Otherwise, things are running along great!
Good to talk to you!

On the way...!

Hello thar!

Starting out to be a good competition time -- or at least it will be once we get there. We have yet to get our t-shirts, but we do have a design (and an awesome one, to boot), and hopefully we'll happen upon a shirt/clothing shop with a design feature to go to and get them done!

On a better hand, one a lot more positive, we shipped the robot! All 115 pounds of it, in fact. We sent it on Tuesday, after two of our best engineers left to go ice fishing, three of our best "everything imps" were sick, and our safety captain was gone on a trip to southern Minnesota. We were left with our programmer and our mentor to load up the robot and bring it to the dock to be shipped out at noon.

At the moment, we are building the last minute things: the minibot, and the driver's station. We also have to pack all of our extra things -- a list of all our things on the robot -- just in case anything breaks.

Well, that's all for now for an update!

STEVE.

15 Feb

Working on the OM NOM NOM claw and the pneumatic cylinder configuration. Finishing our winch contraption and completing routing. Re-writing our programming from last year to work with our new design--which happens to be SWEET.

All day today!

Hello Internet!
Today, we are working pretty much all day. I know, being at school on saturday, not so fun. It is though. We finally got our mechanum wheels in, and they are AWESOME. They're gonna take more programming to be able to run, but they're so worth it, and we can do it. We also updated our sponsor list, the one from last year, so that it's... well, updated. You can find it on our school site, cookcountyschools.org, by visiting the robot project link under "activities."
Being so close to the shipping date, we're working today on the building of our robot. It's going pretty well, with the tower so so close to operation! We're pumped for the competition, and are feeling prettu confident!
                    Thanks for reading!

Hellloooo!

Hey you all!
Icestorm here. This past week has been WORK WORK WORK, but has payed off so so SO much. We have two prototypes done, and they look super awesome. One is for our robotic arm, and the other for the minibot, or as we lovingly call it, the parasite. They both are of wood, because we have that around, being a place of logging and shop classes, but the arm works like a dream, and the minibot looks killer.
As of our main bot, it is very well along, having most to all the necesary components AND our tower. It looks really intimidating, which I guess is good for us, no?
We also have been working on some, actually, a lot, of pneumatics for our arm. Luckily, we have some really REALLY awesome people on our team who set that up! Way to go, us!

***UPDATE***

Hello thar...
Haven't posted for a while. Sorry all!
On the 27th, four team members headed down to Arrowhead Electricity in Lutsen. They presented our hopes, and our current/past accomplishments. Good job, you guys! We ended up recieving a grant and possibly a new laptop, seeing as ours is a little slow (not to mention filled with info!)! Thank you, Arrowhead!
The night before, people worked late to get our robot running, so that we could present it to Arrowhead as well. The bot isn't finished yet, obviously, but is just a frame with the electric components board (with all the components!) attached to the top. Still, it worked well.
Today is mainly a building day, and everyone is working on something to do with the bot. We have our building crew, web crew, and assisting crew. All is going well! It's probably going to be a late night (again!), but that's okay with everyone. It's a monday, and everyone is fresh and revived from the weekend. Lets do it, you guys!!!

Thank you again, Arrowhead and other sponsors!
             We appreciate your help!

HOLA FRIENDS

Hola...
So today, we really could be building, but we're not. I don't know why. But now we're going through our parts (again). We have our building plan together, and it's pretty good for the WEEK we worked on it.

***ACTUALLY, we are building. We're building the mini-bot, AKA the parasite. Pretty cool.

                      Adios!

Hello Thar!
So, today, we're going through our parts. Nothing really exciting, but a necessary thing. We only have so much time to correct mistakes in inventory, so we need to do it now, to catch any. We're also planning out or possible robot designs. Nothing much to talk about today. More tomorrow.

Kickoff 2011!

Hey, Team 3054 Icestorm here!

So, today was the kickoff (obviously stated above), and it ROCKED We, the kickoff team (Alex D., Alex O., Alton, Casey, David, Gus, Jana, Kirsten, Maddie, Max, and Zack.), got so many new, awesome parts for the team, and learned what the challenge was! We woke up all around 4 A.M., or just stayed up, but it was totally worth it. After picking up Silver Bay, we headed out to UMD, arriving about an hour or so early. After signing in, we hung around, waiting for it to start.

When the kickoff, live from New Hampshire, started, there were many acknowledgements from many people. Even Will.I.Am was there. But, when the count-down started for the unveiling of the challenge, everyone was psyched! The curtain fell, and the challenge is...

A sort of ring-toss game, where there are rungs on the wall by where the driver-stations are. You're paired with two other teams, and work together to place the inflatable tubes on the rungs, in the order of the FIRST Robotics logo, Triangle Circle Square. Then, when that is all done, you send a mini-bot to the top of one of the four towers in the playing field. Sounds easy, but is WAY more complicated than it seems.

But, isn't that what FIRST Robotics is about? Exercising the brain? We're up to the challenge. Plus, if we get to nationals, West is going to break-dance for us. Woo us!

                  For now,
